Net worth tracker: gold, currencies and crypto at today's rates
Last updated · spending.chat editorial team · 2 min read
Some gold at home, savings at the bank, a little foreign cash, a bit of crypto… When savings are spread out it's hard to know what you're worth in total. A net worth tracker adds up what you own at today's value and subtracts what you owe. With spending.chat you tell it your holdings once, then ask “my net worth” and it's calculated at current rates.
What is net worth and how is it calculated?
Net worth is the current value of everything you own minus what you owe: add cash, bank accounts, gold, foreign currency, crypto, stocks, funds, a home or a car; subtract card balances, loans and remaining installments; add money people owe you.
| Line | Example | Amount |
|---|---|---|
| Gold | 10 grams | illustrative $1,350 |
| Foreign currency | 500 euros | illustrative $580 |
| Bank and cash | savings + wallet | $6,000 |
| Owed to you | a loan to a friend | +$200 |
| Debt | card balance + installments | −$1,480 |
| Net worth | $6,650 |
Figures are illustrative; gold and currency values move with the market. A net worth that rises steadily means your savings plan is working.
How do you log holdings in WhatsApp?
Write what you own in plain words: “I have 10 grams of gold”, “6,000 in the bank”, “500 euros”, “0.01 BTC”. The assistant understands the type and amount and saves it. When something changes, just write it again.
- Gold: grams, ounces and Turkish gold coins (quarter, half, full, Republic) and 22-carat jewellery.
- Currencies and crypto: euros, pounds, dollars and cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum are valued at current rates.
- Everything else: for a home, a car, stocks or funds you give the value (“my car is worth 18,000”) and the assistant uses it.
- “My net worth” or “my assets” returns the total, your holdings, debts and what you're owed.
How are prices worked out?
Gold is valued from the international ounce price, per gram and, for coins and 22-carat jewellery, by pure-gold content. Currencies come from daily exchange rates and crypto from market prices. A dealer's buy or sell price can differ because it includes a margin.
The value in the assistant is an estimate to track your savings; check with a dealer or your broker before you sell.
How do debts and installments affect net worth?
Debts you've logged and installments still to pay are subtracted automatically, and money owed to you is added, so you see the difference between “what's in the bank” and “what I'm really worth”.
See the debt tracker for logging debts and IOUs.
